Let's Have a Stupid Contest

50 Cent is out to one-up Kanye West in the stupid-comment-about-Katrina contest.

Kanye West, you may recall, said, “George Bush doesn't care about black people.” (If you think Kanye’s right, you need to brush up on your old clichés: Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity. Or incompetence.)

50 Cent says Kanye’s all wrong. The real explanation? “The New Orleans disaster was meant to happen. It was an act of God.” I wonder if Half Dollar thinks it was because of the gays.

50 Cent was merely saying that there was no control over the hurricane.

This is the definition of "act of god" from the glossary of insurance terms:

Act of God (Act of Nature):
Perils that occur naturally such as tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes.

If he'd just said it was an act of God, I would've let it go. But he threw in that bit about how it was "meant to happen," which I read to mean he thinks Someone intended it. Also, note that he referred to New Orleans, not just Katrina. What happened in New Orleans was not just an act of God/nature -- it was a monumental human screw-up.
