Orange County Teenage Metaphysics

Last Wednesday, in Mission Viejo, waiting to have a tux tailored, I killed a few minutes at the strip mall's neighboring Dietrich's. A handful of kids from the neighboring high school hung around the coffee shop. I overheard this, one side of an animated cellphone exchange:

"No, it's not real!"

"Yes, I have."

"But it's a 'reality' show--not a reality show."

"Look, I have friends who live in Laguna Beach, and they watch Laguna Beach. Why would they do that if it was really real? They would already know all that stuff."

Perhaps "O.C." should stand for "ontological conundrum"
