A Political Map With No Latitude

A map of political blogs shows the Volokh Conspiracy in the center. V-Conspirator David Post finds this mildly surprising, but it actually makes perfect sense once you consider the libertarian bent of many of the Conspirators. In a one-dimensional (left to right) political map, the typically radical views of libertarians "average out" to moderate. The libertarian’s support for legalization of drugs cancels out his opposition to the welfare state, for instance, so that he appears to live in the political center.

A better (though still imperfect) political blog map would be two-dimensional, like the ones found at Advocates for Self Government and Politopia.
