Irksome Expressions and Turns of Phrase #3

“This is the best [item in some category] since [another item in the same category released as recently as last year].” If you’re trying to make a strong statement about something, this is not how to do it. “Daredevil is the best superhero movie since Spider-man” -- given that Spider-man was released just a few months earlier, what does that really tell me, aside from the subtle implication that Spider-man was better? “This is the best superhero movie since Superman” -- now *that’s* a compliment (even if you, like me, didn’t think much of Superman) simply because Superman was made so long ago.
